THE WEBSITE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

OUR AIMS

1 The promotion of more effective world governance.
We feel that national governments have too narrow a viewpoint to deal adequately with the problems of the modern world, which are becoming increasingly of a global nature, and that more powerful international political bodies are needed.   We have to recognise that, to achieve this, the issue of national sovereignty will require to be challenged, and that nations will have to give up decision making power to higher authorities, acting in the interests of all peoples.   We have to realise too that such changes fly in the face of thousands of years of history, and that the exiting system is entrenched in the minds of both politicians and citizens.  But, all the same, we need to enter into the debate of what kind of world wide political organisations are needed, how they should be structured and how we can modify attitudes so that they can become really successful and effective.   Please feel free to voice  your thoughts on these matters in our discussion form.

2 Freedom of movement of all people and goods everywhere in the world.
Our view is that, from a pragmatic and a moral standpoint, restrictions on immigration and on trade are wrong.   We see this as a challenge to all governments, to find a way of building a word order in which there will be no need for trade barriers and immigration control, a world in which people can choose to live wherever they want to, a world in which no one is driven unwillingly from their localities because of war, fear, oppression or starvation.

3 Redistribution of the word's resources to make a fairer and more equal world.
We believe that those in rich countries should look at wasteful way they consume the world's resources, the greedy way they exploit the assets in distant neighbourhoods at the expense of the locals, and the relentless way they maintain economic systems that favour rich areas over poorer ones. We believe also that governments and aid agencies should deal more firmly with corruption inside all countries, and ensure that help is not siphoned off from those who need it into the hands of a few.   We support the role of governments, charities and individuals in the redistribution effort, and we encourage our visitors to provide practical help or financial support to organisations working in this field, some of which are listed on these pages.

4 Total commitment to freedom of speech and thought worldwide.
We believe that a fairer and more just society results when thoughts and opinions are expressed freely and without constraint, and we oppose all attempts to muzzle the citizens of any country in any situation.   Similarly, we think that openness in politics world wide should be increased, and that the concept of state secrets should be abolished.

5 World peace.
We are against terrorism and war, and support the establishment of an international policing force and an international legal system, independent of influence by individual countries, no matter how large or how rich, and with real powers to enforce the general will of the whole world community.   we support all disarmament initiatives consistent with maintaining world peace.
