THE WEBSITE OF INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

SPREADING THE WORD

In this page we try to give you some useful tips and contacts to help you get your opinions out into the world at large.   But we don't of course, have all the answers so if you have any ideas please use the discussion forum or contact us to let us add them to this page.

FOLLOWING THE NEWS
Pay attention to current news stories and monitor news sources: TV, radio, print and internet. Almost every day, there is some news item connected with those issues that we are concerned with. And, almost inevitably, they are reported from a  biased and nationalist viewpoint.  The opportunity exists, therefore, for us to comment on these stories and present a different, internationalist point of view, a point of view that takes into account the good of people everywhere and not just national self-interest. Fortunately, most news providers invite comments on their stories, so it is not difficult to send them your views. It is not just as easy to get these views published, but here are a few tips that might help.
  • DO IT QUICKLY - when you read a story that you want to respond to, send your views that day.  Old news is no news, and if you wait no one will be interested in what you have to say.
  • BE BRIEF - space (or time) is at a premium in all news media, so try to make your message as short and snappy as you can.  A well-expressed sentence can be very effective.
  • MAKE A SOUND BITE - If you can, use literary tricks to produce a memorable phrase that will attract the attention of publishers and readers, watchers or listeners.  Antithesis (A good opinion impresses; a well-expressed good opinion impresses and is remembered), rule of three (make your readers listen, reflect and then act), repetition (tell them now, tell them tomorrow and keep telling them) and metaphor (communication is the fuel of the public opinion engine) are all ways of beefing up your message.
  • BE REASONABLE - Don't just scream you point of view from the rooftops.  Justify it as cleverly and as concisely as you can.
  • RESPOND EVERYWHERE - You can respond to newspapers (usually be email), to TV and radio programmes and to internet news sites and blogs.  Take advantage of every opportunity you come across.

INTERNET NETWORKING
There are several ways that we can use the net to find people with whom we can discuss our views. An obvious way to spread the word is to pass on to your contacts, on email or social networks, anything interesting that you find which you think will interest them.  Don't send them everything, but if there is an issue that you care about and that they might care about too, pass it on.   Another way is to join other discussion forums related to international politics or world issues.   If you have any of these to recommend please use the discussion forum or contact us and we can add them to this page.   Another thing you can do is access popular political blog sites and add comments to them.  In this way you might be able to influence the thinking of decision makers or influential journalists in the political field.

PUBLISH ARTICLES AND VIDEOS
In our news comments section, we publish articles about the issues we are interested in.   Of course, we are happy to publish relevant articles form you too, and there is a submission form for you to send these articles.  If you tick the box agreeing to release your author's rights, other users of the site will be able to help publicise your views to a wider audience.   We would, of course, ask them to inform us of any publication so that you will also know about it .  And, if the authors have given permission, you may use these articles in your communications or offer them to other organisations for publication.  We are also interested in receiving videos to add to the site.   For information on how to produce such videos, please click here.
